***Dengue
Dengue is a viral fever transmitted through mosquito
bites. The “Adis” mosquito is the culprit. The disease is very prevalent in
tropical countries like ours. Dengue is characterised by sustained high-grade
fever, pain around, inside or behind the eyes, nausea and vomiting, abdominal
discomfort, Diarrhea, muscle aches and measles-like red rashes all over the
body. There are no vaccines against dengue. That’s why prevention is crucial.
The vector “Adis” mosquito breeds in stagnant fresh water and rainwater. So we
must be vigilant in keeping our household areas clean. We must not allow water
to stagnate in flowerpots, vases, tyres and puddles. Besides, we must protect
ourselves from mosquito-bites.We have to use mosquito nets and
mosquito-repellant. Above all, we must consult a doctor if any fever persists
for days
